I joined Racing Welfare in 2024 as Media and Communications Officer and I’m delighted to have found a role where I can combine my story-telling skills with a passion for everything horseracing – including the people who work in the industry to make a day at the races possible.

Newmarket born and bred, I grew up on stud farms in the historic home of horseracing where my father spent his 50-year career working his way up the ranks from Stud Hand to Stallion man to Second Man and Stud Groom. An expert in his field; watching him meticulously deliver countless trembling new foals into the world at any time of day or night instilled within me a strong work ethic.

Stable, stud and racecourse staff know that what they do isn’t a job but a labour of love, and it’s thanks to them that we all get to go racing and hear the unmistakable thunder of hooves on turf as the runners approach the finishing post. Through my role at Racing Welfare, I want to celebrate that dedication, while raising awareness of the challenges those individuals may face and the support that is available to them.

Having started my career as a reporter at the Bury Free Press newspaper, before moving to the charity sector to work as Press and Media Officer and then Press and Media Manager for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), I’m looking forward to combining all the skills and experience I’ve gained so far, for the benefit of Racing Welfare.
