Leaving a gift in your will helps us to care for Racing’s People when they need us most.
Racing Welfare provides a range of services to support racing’s people, helping them with challenges such as mental and physical health, isolation and financial trouble. After looking after your family and friends, please consider leaving a gift in your Will to Racing Welfare, so that we can be there for those who need us most.
Derek worked in racing all of his life, spending a period of time as a conditional jockey at late trainer Syd Dale’s yard. In retirement, the financial support he received from Racing Welfare when he was left with significant debt following the death of his father, was his motivation to leave a gift in will to the charity.
Derek said “Racing Welfare have been very good to me, you wouldn’t believe how much they have helped me and I just feel that I owe Racing Welfare something back so they can do the same for somebody else.
“When my father died he left me in the mire with about £14,000 of debt, he’d been hiding all the letters from me and never let me know. I nearly lost my flat and Racing Welfare stepped in and helped me to pay it. The Welfare Officer came with me to the all meetings with the solicitors and also helped me with my pensions. My uncle who was a horsebox driver used to come to the meetings as well and when he passed away he left me some money from his property and that money paid Racing Welfare back.”
The support provided by Racing Welfare helped Derek in all areas of his life and he made the decision to leave his entire property to the charity in his will.
“My property is worth £300,000 and as far as I’m concerned it will all go to Racing Welfare. They’ve helped me so much that I can’t thank them enough. We’ve got such a wonderful body in Racing Welfare, what they do is brilliant. I want them to carry on exactly what they are doing, Racing Welfare are the best.”
