Project Lead – Mental Health Services
I joined the welfare team at Racing Welfare in March 2006, having previously worked in Bloodstock insurance. During my time, I have gained over 15 years’ experience in welfare, which included being a Welfare Officer and Casework Supervisor. My latest role, of Project Lead for Mental Health Services, sits under the Workforce Wellbeing Programme and includes being the lead Mental Health First Aid instructor for the charity. This gives me the opportunity to deliver accredited online and classroom mental health courses to people in the racing industry.
Born in Newmarket, I have worked all my life in the industry. I come from a racing background, with my father as stud manager and both grandfathers as apprentice jockeys. My grandfather, Charlie Leggett was Champion Stable Lad boxer for 7 consecutive years and one of the youngest professional boxers, at the age of 11 – we still have all his cups in the attic!
My new role leads me to new and exciting ventures, and the opportunity to really make a difference to people’s mental health both at Racing Welfare and in the industry.
