Racing Welfare Launch Covid-19 Emergency Appeal

These are exceptional times for British horseracing and breeding, times that could have a lasting effect on the industry.  For Racing Welfare the financial impact of Covid-19 has been severe.  The charity is experiencing a significant drop in income as fundraising events and activities have been cancelled.  With no certainty as to when these events may be rearranged, the charity faces a loss of fundraising income amounting to £500,000 in 2020.

First Tenants Move Into Racing Welfare’s Newly Renovated MacDonald Buchanan House

Wednesday 8th April saw the first 12 tenants move into the newly renovated MacDonald Buchanan House, on Howard De Walden Way in Newmarket.  With the support of The Alborada Trust, The Macdonald Buchanan Charitable Trust and The Newmarket Open Weekend (now The Henry Cecil Open Weekend), Racing Welfare has invested over £600,000 into a complete renovation of the site which, when fully completed, will provide 18 units of high-quality accommodation.  The completion of the project has been slowed by the Covid-19 crisis, but the team involved have worked hard to adapt and are delighted to be able to welcome these young people into the Racing Homes Community.

 

Racing Welfare Introduce Streamlined Application Process for Covid-19 Grants

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, Racing Welfare has seen an increase in people coming to the charity for financial advice. In response to the situation, a streamlined application process for the provision of Covid-19 grants has been introduced. The grants are for anyone working in the British horseracing and breeding industry and are designed to help those who are in need of immediate financial assistance due to the outbreak. 

Racing Welfare and GBR produce COVID-19 Wellbeing Toolkit

Racing Welfare and Great British Racing have come together to produce a Wellbeing Toolkit specifically designed to support the mental wellbeing of racing’s workforce during the Covid-19 outbreak.  The document contains useful links, tips and strategies for coping with the crisis, including contact details for Racing Welfare and other organisations who can help. #OneDayChangesLives: ACO shows nearly half a million turn to charities for support, including basic essentials

With January intensifying the difficulties people face financially and emotionally, new research has revealed nearly half a million people turned to charities for help in just one year, with Racing Welfare supporting more than 2,500 last year alone.

National data from the Association of Charitable Organisations (ACO) shows the number of people seeking help from charities and benevolent funds because they have nowhere else to turn following an unexpected change in circumstances has risen over the last four years.

Hayley Moore announced as new Racing Welfare Ambassador

Racing Welfare has great pleasure in announcing that Hayley Moore has joined our team of Ambassadors.  Hayley’s first assignment will be to hosting the Epsom Owners’ and Trainers’ Awards at Epsom Downs Racecourse this weekend on behalf of the charity.

At the Races presenter Hayley Moore has joined Racing Welfare’s team of Ambassadors, a role which will see her help to raise the profile of the charity in various ways.  She joins a roster that counts Paul Nicholls, Lee Mottershead, Becky Smith, Darren ‘Birdie’ Bird, Sam Twiston-Davies and her brother Ryan Moore amidst its ranks.

Maria’s Great South Run Challenge

Racing Welfare beneficiary Maria Doe will be taking on the 10 mile Great South Run this Sunday, 15 months after suffering a serious spinal injury.

Maria, who has worked for leading trainer Sir Michael Stoute for 19 years, was injured last year when the horse she was riding slipped and fell on top of her.  She underwent surgery to stabilise her crushed vertebrae and had two metal rods inserted down side of her spine.

Racing Welfare selected as QIPCO British Champions Day official charity for a second year

The stars of flat racing will align this Saturday 20th October, gracing Ascot’s hallowed turf for this year’s renewal of QIPCO British Champions Day.  Racing Welfare is delighted to have been nominated as official charity for a second time, an association which goes a long way in helping to raising funds to support racing’s workforce. Furthermore, we have been very fortunate to work with Great British Racing, the team behind QIPCO British Champions Day, in the lead up to the event to produce some very special features that will be on show around Ascot on the day, shining a light on the importance of the team behind every champion racehorse.

Racing’s Occupational Health Service Receives National Launch

Racing’s Occupational Health Service, operated by Racing Welfare, receives its national launch on Monday 3rd September 2018.  The service offers a framework for the management of the physical and mental wellbeing of all those working in the racing and Thoroughbred breeding industries. The overriding aim of the service is to prevent and treat work related illness and injury.  It will also work to promote the safety, health and wellbeing of British horseracing’s workforce.

European Bloodstock News’ Advertising Campaign Raises Thousands for Racing Welfare

European Bloodstock News presented the team from Racing Welfare with a cheque for over £5000 at their annual Clay Shoot event at Six Mile Bottom, Newmarket earlier this week, having raised funds through their ‘Name the price of your advert’ campaign in May.

European Bloodstock News (EBN) regularly lends a wealth of support to Racing Welfare by publishing details of the charity’s fundraising and awareness-raising efforts, in addition to particulars of its service provision, through their daily email bloodstock news delivery and printed pre-sales publications. As such, EBN is one of Racing Welfare’s foremost industry partners and an organisation that the charity is very proud to work with.
