Malton Festival of Racing draws in crowds to go behind-the-scenes of Ryedale’s horseracing industry

Sunday 16^th September saw over 2000 visitors flocking to the North Yorkshire town of Malton to visit the yards of 12 trainers open to the public on the day, followed by a programme of family friendly events at Highfield Gallops in the afternoon.

Racing fans were able to meet stars of both Flat and National Hunt codes on the day, including this year’s Gimcrack winner Sands of Mali, the bet365 Bunbury Cup victor Burnt Sugar, 2016 Scottish Sprint Cup winner Hoof it and Ribchester, victorious last year’s Prix Du Moulin. Guests to Mark Campion’s yard had the opportunity to enter his competition to name a new recruit to the team of horses running for the Mark Campion Racing Club, the winner of which will be given one year’s free membership to the club.

The Jockey Club has today announced that they will be providing free meals at all of its racecourses for all racing staff from Saturday 30^th June 2018, scheduled to coincide with the first day of Racing Welfare’s Racing Staff Week.

William Hill Racing Staff Boxing Night 2018

On 17^th March, 26 racing staff entered the ring to battle it out to raise money for Racing Welfare. Sponsored by William Hill, the black tie event was held at Goffs UK in Doncaster.

The stands soon filled up with spectators ready to show their support. After 8 weeks of gruelling training with UWCB local professional boxing coaches at Henry’s gym York and Ripon Boxing Club the boxers are probably at their fittest yet.

‘Uncovered’ release charity single in aid of Racing Welfare

The band, originating from Lambourn and Swindon was formed in April 2017 by the guitarist Shaun Johnson. Uncovered have played a handful of shows and are building up a solid reputation among crowds of all ages. Their professional approach and dedication has been renowned among audiences.
