Statutory Sick Pay

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is money paid to you by your employer if you are sick or unable to work and is available for up to 28 weeks. It is paid for the days you would normally have worked and is a fixed amount of £95.85 per week. However, it is not paid for the first 3 days that you are off work, unless you have been paid SSP within the last 8 weeks and are eligible to receive it again.

How you are paid

SSP will be paid by your employer in the normal way as your wages, for example weekly or monthly with tax and National Insurance already deducted.

If you require more information, including details of how much SSP you may be entitled to receive, go to: Gov.uk Statutory Sick Pay – Overview or contact the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) employees’ enquiry line listed at the bottom of the page.

*You will not be eligible to receive SSP if you are receiving Statutory Maternity Pay or have received the full amount (28 weeks) of SSP.

For more information on eligibility visit Gov.uk Statutory Sick Pay – Eligibility
