STARS SET TO RETURN FOR RACING WELFARE’S CHARITY GOLF DAY AT WOBURN

Racing Welfare’s star-studded Charity Golf Day returns on Wednesday 3rd May at Woburn Golf Club, by kind invitation of His Grace, the Duke of Bedford.

The sell-out day, generously sponsored by BetGoodwin, will see 28 teams taking part in the four-ball event which raises vital funds for horseracing’s human welfare charity. Participants will play 18 holes on the famous Marquess course which has hosted four British Masters tournaments, and have the opportunity to include a celebrity in their team.

The celebrity line-up features a number of sporting stars including 20-time champion jockey Sir AP McCoy, Mick Fitzgerald, Dan Skelton, Warren Greatrex, Jay Tabb, Richard Levi, Mark Foster and John Francome. They’re joined by racing presenters Ed Chamberlin and Mike Cattermole.

Mick Fitzgerald, former Gold Cup and Grand National winner has been a regular supporter of the event and cited his reasons, saying: “I think Racing Welfare are a fantastic charity who do so much for people working in the sport. They have such a visible presence in racing communities everywhere, and they’re so proactive now that people who need help don’t have to be at their wits end before they contact them. I really think the strides the charity has made in recent years can only be good for the racing community.

“It’s a fantastic cause – let’s hope it raises lots of money and we get some nice weather!”

Once again, Sky Sports will be the official media partner for the event, with exclusive interviews being aired on the channel and across social media.

Each year, as well as providing participants with a fantastic day of golf on this prestigious course, the event typically raises in the region of £30,000 in crucial funds for Racing Welfare which could pay for 140 beneficiaries to receive a course of physio treatment. The charity relies upon donations and fundraising events to provide a wide range of support services to people working in or retired from the racing industry who make our sport possible.

The support of sponsors is crucial in making these events a success. Julian Head, managing director of headline sponsors Goodwin Racing said: “BetGoodwin are delighted to be the main sponsors of the celebrity golf day this year at Woburn. We are a very horseracing orientated firm and we are so pleased all funds raised are going to Racing Welfare for such a worthwhile cause.”
