Thursday last week saw 23 beneficiaries take part in a trip to Weatherbys, the home of horse racing administration.
The lucky 23 enjoyed behind the scenes tours of racing operations, racing services, commercial services the stud book along with the banking arm of the business with a tour of the bank and insurance department. They were then treated to a wonderful lunch and a chance to chat to the commercial team and ask many questions.
It was wonderful to get an insight into what goes on behind the scenes at such an influential part of the industry, which so many seem to know so little about. The tour of Racing Operations department was a real eye opener for many, showing how Weatherbys are responsible for over 1 million race entries and declarations in a year. They also produce over 3.2 million race cards each year!
The trip was in conjunction with Paula Wilson’s art group which was officially launched on the 1st February 2018. Paula is recruiting beneficiaries of Racing welfare to encourage them to turn their racing pasts into some artwork. The beneficiaries where able to get hands on in the stud book library – researching horses that they had worked with in the past and looking at the highlight of their careers. A wonderful day was had by all.
