GREAT TURNOUT FOR BEDMAX NEWMARKET HEATH RIDE

131 horse and rider combinations turned out on Sunday 04 September for Racing Welfare’s popular Bedmax Newmarket Heath Ride.

The annual event offers the unique opportunity for participants to ride over 8, 15 or 20 mile routes across Newmarket’s hallowed turf, starting and finishing at the July Course.

Participant Michelle Wolfe said: “What a fantastic time we had today on the Newmarket Heath Ride. It was so well-organised and all the stewards and volunteers were really helpful! The run up the hill on the Al-Bahathri gallop was amazing & a drink after for horses & riders was greatly appreciated.”

In addition to providing a fantastic day out for all involved, the event has raised more than £5,800 in vital funds for organisers Racing Welfare, horseracing’s human welfare charity.

Jo White, Corporate Fundraising and Events Manager said: “What a day! We were blessed with fantastic weather and a hugely enthusiastic bunch of riders, who returned home with big smiles on their faces. I’d like to say a big thank you to all who took part for making it such an enjoyable and successful day, and of course to our army of volunteers.

“The event is only possible through the support and kind permission of The National Stud, Newmarket Racecourses and Jockey Club Estates, and of course the continued support of our headline sponsors Bedmax.”

Tim Smalley, Managing Director of Bedmax said of their involvement: “The racing industry is at the core of Bedmax’s evolution, and it is a privilege to have the opportunity to continue to support such a fantastic event, on behalf of an invaluable charity that supports and tends to the workforce behind it.”
