Welfare Officer (Scotland)
I am the Welfare Officer for Scotland and I am part of Racing Welfare's Northern team, I’m based from my home and travel across Scotland ranging from Aberdeen down to the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, it is my role to support racing staff, attend race meetings and visit yards.
I’ve always been involved with horses and latterly racing, growing up in the Scottish Borders I was involved in Pony Club and with my local hunt. I have ridden out at local point-to-point yards as well as spending a year in Middleham working for Kate Walton Racing where I was lucky to have rides both on the flat and pointing. Before beginning with Racing Welfare I completed a degree and spent time working in the third sector as a Carer Support Officer which allowed me to develop my knowledge of statutory and voluntary sectors. I love working with people and supporting them to overcome their own personal challenges.
I have a huge amount of admiration for all of the staff who work in the racing industry, their passion and commitment is like no other and I am hugely lucky that my job means I get to meet many of these people and provide support when they need it. Racing Welfare is a dynamic charity which ensures that the people of the racing community are at its core and it is amazing to see the positive impact that our support has on racing staff of all ages.
