As Communications Manager, my role involves overseeing all of our press relations, social media, marketing activity and internal communications to keep Racing Welfare in people's consciousness. I work closely with all of our departments and regional teams to ensure that we capture as much of the charity's activity as possible to inform our supporters, beneficiaries and the general public about what we do and how it impacts on people's lives.
Originally from Scotland, my professional background is rooted in the horse industry, having worked with both racehorses and sport horses since I was at school. During my career I spent time in equine Further and Higher Education, running the Equine Therapy Centre at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire for six years. I gained a real appreciation for helping young people to empower themselves and build a bright future through education and work-based learning and this subject remains of great interest to me still.
Most recently I worked as Regional Senior Sales Coordinator at Cheltenham Racecourse, which saw me working as Cheltenham's Hospitality and Conferencing & Events sales teams to deliver some of the country's biggest sporting events, including The Festival.
I have been writing alongside my day-jobs since 2013, firstly as online columnist for Horse and Hound Online and more recently contributing features for an array of equestrian publications to date.
I travel a lot each week as my role is national and my day to day work is hugely varied due to the amount of projects and events happening at Racing Welfare at any one time. I love the challenge and diverse nature of my job and am passionate about continually raising the charity's profile to reach as many people as we can.
