Simone Sear scoops Godolphin award

Racing Welfare’s Director of Welfare, Simone Sear, last night took home the Rory MacDonald award at the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards. Held at the Underglobe on London’s South Bank, the gong was one of six given out on the night to recognise and reward the endeavours of people working in the racing and breeding industry.

‘Be Friendly’ – Racing Welfare’s telephone befriending service has launched

Racing Welfare has launched a telephone befriending service for vulnerable, lonely or isolated people from the horseracing industry with the aim of reducing and preventing loneliness and social isolation. The service has been named ‘Be Friendly’ after the dual Haydock Sprint Cup winner owned by Sir Peter O’Sullevan, a longstanding supporter of the charity.

Museum membership scheme to prevent loneliness

85 retired racing staff from the Newmarket area will be attending a special coffee morning at Palace House, Newmarket; The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art on Tuesday 10th October, World Mental Health Day.

Racing Welfare is aware that loneliness and social isolation is a growing problem nationally and it can be a major contributory factor leading to serious health problems. The charity is therefore launching a new scheme to benefit the mental wellbeing of racing’s retired people by providing membership to Palace House to allow people to visit, free of charge, throughout the year.

Coffee Mornings launch in Gloucestershire for retired racing staff

On the 19th April 2017, Racing Welfare are holding the first Coffee Morning for people who have retired from the horseracing industry in the Gloucestershire area. The coffee morning will be held at the beautiful Richmond Retreats in Painswick and is free of charge to attend for anyone who has worked within the industry at any stage during their career.
