Racing Welfare staff acknowledged at industry awards

Two members of Racing Welfare staff have been shortlisted for the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards 2022.

Volunteer Coordinator Jen Gates and Welfare Officer Helen Wilson were both nominated for the community award, which recognises any individual connected directly or indirectly to horseracing, including auxiliary and administrative staff, who demonstrate the social responsibility and values of our sport. Nominees are selfless, passionate people, who go above and beyond their everyday roles or jobs to make a positive difference to the lives of people or racehorses within the industry, or to the communities within which racing operates.

It was a lovely surprise finding out I had been nominated and to reach the shortlist alongside some incredible people is a real honour.

I was a bit overwhelmed and quite shocked. I’m usually the sort of person that works behind the scenes! It’s fantastic for Racing Welfare to have their workforce and our contribution to the racing community recognised, because we are a team after all.

Now in their 18th year, the awards recognise and reward the outstanding skills, commitment and contribution of over 10,000 stud and stable staff in England, Scotland and Wales. The event is sponsored by Godolphin and run by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) in association with the Racing Post and Racing TV.

The Judging Panel will now work through each shortlist to name three finalists in each category, which will be announced in the New Year prior to judging day for those finalists on Monday 21 February 2022. The winners will then be announced during the ceremony on the same date.
