About Racing Welfare grants

Racing Welfare may be able to assist eligible individuals who are in need with a grant. Grants can be awarded for a variety of goods or services that will aid someone’s wellbeing and/or improve circumstances in difficult times.

This list is not exhaustive and if you are unsure if we can help then please get in touch and we can arrange for a Welfare Officer to call to discuss your needs in more detail.

Applying for a grant


Apply for a grant using the Lightning application portal.

This platform is provided by our trusted partner, Lightning Reach, a social impact startup which uses secure technology to make the application process as quick and safe as possible for you. 

If you have ever held a Jockeys licence in the UK and have not already spoke with a welfare officer, please contact us at info@racingwelfare.co.uk before starting the application process.

A simple 3 step process

  • Register and complete your profile here
  • When asked to provide details of your work history, make sure to select ‘British Horse Racing and Thoroughbred Breeding’ from the Industry drop-down list to ensure you are matched to Racing Welfare
  • Once you’ve completed your profile, you should receive a support match to Racing Welfare. Click ‘continue’ to complete and submit your application. 

Once your application has been made a welfare officer will be in touch as soon as possible, this is usually within 7 days.

The profile you create on the Lightning application portal can also help you to find and apply for support from other support organisations easily and securely. We recommend that you submit your application to Racing Welfare first before submitting applications to other organisations.
