Golden Horn nomination headlines Racing to Cricket auction in aid of Racing Welfare
A nomination to multiple Group 1 winner and Group 1 sire Golden Horn is among the strong line-up of auction lots at this year’s Racing to Cricket Tournament at Wormsley Cricket Ground on Sunday 6 September, with this year’s event raising funds exclusively for Racing Welfare.
Generously donated by Jayne McGivern of Dash Grange Stud, the nomination offers breeders a rare opportunity to secure access to Golden Horn, who won the Derby, Eclipse, Irish Champion Stakes and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe before embarking on a successful career at stud. His leading progeny include Champion Hurdler Golden Ace, Gold Cup winner Trawlerman, Triumph Hurdle 1-3 Poniros and East India Dock, as well as Royal Ascot Group 2 winner Gregory and Italian Derby winner Goldenas.
Another star lot in the auction is a luxurious 10-day holiday to Thailand for two, including flights and stays at the 5-star Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, Wild Cottages Elephant Sanctuary Resort and the Bo Phut Resort & Spa on Koh Samui. Donated by Chris Hirst and Nicola Dack of Travel Counsellors, the package can also be exchanged for holiday vouchers.
The auction also features Ascot hospitality for four, a team at the sold-out Racing Welfare Woburn Golf Day 2027, hospitality for four at the Racing Welfare Grand National Thursday Lunch 2027, and lunch at the Queen’s Arms followed by a Berkshire shooting experience. The raffle will offer prizes including a Porsche Driving Experience at Silverstone, a case of English sparkling wine and a 2026 harvest experience from Newsells Park Winery, a Wormsley Estate Garden tour and afternoon tea for 10, and £500 of Travel Counsellors vouchers.
Racing to Cricket has raised more than £330,000 for racing charities since its inception. For the first time this year, the event is raising funds for Racing Welfare, which supports people working in and retired from British racing and breeding, together with their families.
As Racing Welfare Chief Executive Dawn Goodfellow said when the 2026 beneficiary was announced: “Racing to Cricket is a brilliant example of the racing community coming together in support of its people.”
