Fantastic Response to Virtual Yorkshire Open Day

All of us here at Racing Welfare would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Virtual Yorkshire Open Day on Sunday.  The day was a huge success and there was some fabulous content on offer. 24 trainers from across Yorkshire opened their doors via YouTube giving viewers exclusive behind-the-scenes access. Audiences at home also had the chance to get an insight into what makes racing in Yorkshire so special with some familiar faces and organisations providing some really informative and fun videos.

We’re delighted. We’ve also seen an amazing amount of goodwill, with trainers and racecourses coming together, and the comments on social media have been fantastic. We’ve collected around £1,000 in voluntary £2.50 donations when people registered and the total for the online auction, which runs until September 24, is now past £37,000

Mark Loades, Head of Fundraising.

The day included everything from an overview of the training centres of Malton and Middleham to the ever-popular Top Notch Tonto strutting his stuff in his new career and even a hilarious celebrity Mr & Mrs game show featuring some of Yorkshire racing’s most popular faces.  The day really caught the public’s attention and by mid-afternoon on Sunday all the videos had over 40,000 views.  Our Yorkshire Open Day web page was viewed over 6,800 times on the day alone and the response on social media was fantastic.

Derek Thomson kicked off the day live in Sheriff Hutton with legendary trainer Mick Easterby on the Morning Line Reborn on Facebook.  Tommo and Mick were a line-up not to be missed with one viewer on Facebook, David Gerrard, commenting:

Another superb edition of The Morning Line Reborn this morning.  Wonderful to see Middleham... Always a pleasure to watch and thank you for the reminder of the Virtual Yorkshire Open Day. Fascinating insights and excellent viewing behind the scenes.  Think I saw two dozen stables plus the Yorkshire saddler feature... Racing Welfare is such an excellent organisation.  Well done and thanks to all who featured. Also a great auction running at the moment.  I will be putting my bids in.  Thanks again.
