Every horse needs a name before she starts her racing career and we need your help to pick one!

Owner Craig Buckingham, who has a string of both flat and jumps horses, has bought a new three year old National Hunt filly that will be trained by Dan Skelton at Lodge Hill, but first she needs a name!

Racing Welfare are holding a competition for you to come up with a name for the horse. Entry to the competition is £10 and you can enter as many times as you like as long as you are over the age of 16. Craig himself will go through all of the entries and pick out the name that appeals to him most.

Not only will the Filly be raced under the winning name but the winner will also get two full owner’s badges to watch the horse whenever it runs during its first season. This will be inclusive of the full owners’ experience including entering the parade ring pre-race, meeting the jockey and trainer and being part of the prize presentation if she wins.

Alongside this you will also receive a full stable tour for two and a chance to watch the horses in training at Dan Skelton’s Yard on November 17th 2018 hosted by Craig Buckingham. Following the tour you will have two owner’s badges for BetVictor Gold Cup day at Cheltenham on the same day.

One of Craig’s favourite racehorse names is ‘Shades of Mist’. He went to look at a Lilbourne Lad colt at Goffs Doncaster, the horse stuck its head out of the box and he looked just like the 2yo Rainbow Mist that Craig had just sold to Hong Kong. So he bought the colt and named it ‘Shades of Mist’.

We are very grateful to Craig for donating this prize. All entry fees for the competition will go to Racing Welfare, the charity that supports the whole workforce behind British Racing.

You can enter by visiting out competition page here

Please check your name idea on the BHA website for availability before entering (https://www.britishhorseracing.com/regulation/ownership/horse-name-availability/)

The deadline for the competition is Thursday 6th September and the winner will be notified on Friday 7th September after Craig has chosen the winning name.
