The Henry Cecil Open Weekend

Behind the Scenes of Horseracing's Head Quarters

19th September 2020

The Newmarket Open Weekend has been renamed the ‘Henry Cecil Open Weekend’ to celebrate the life of the iconic and much-loved trainer.

This year’s Henry Cecil Newmarket open weekend will not go ahead in its usual format in September due to the coronavirus pandemic but organisers are planning to create a virtual version of the event online.

Aspects of the popular two-day festival, due to be staged on September 19 and 20, are now set to be shown digitally, which could include footage of some stables, the Warren Hill gallops event and the popular showjumping.

Since the open weekend was revived in 2012 more than £300,000 has been raised for various charities including Racing Welfare and organisers are hoping to raise some monies from their virtual open day when it goes out across media platforms including both racing channels.
