Champion trainer receives Citroen charity cheque
Champion National Hunt Trainer Paul Nicholls received a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the stable staff charity Racing Welfare at his yard in Ditcheat, North Somerset on Friday 3rd July. The cheque was presented by Michael Warner, MD of Warners Motor Group and came about as a result of Citroen’s sponsorship of the leading jockey and trainer title at this year’s Cheltenham festival.
Ruby Walsh, stable jockey to Paul Nicholls won the jockey’s competition and the trainer’s title went to the North Somerset training maestro of Denman and Kauto Star.
Rowan Hyde and Sarah Hopkins, Racing Welfare’s West Country welfare officers hitched a ride in the champion trainer’s Warners sponsored car for a quick tour of the paddocks where some of the country’s star National Hunt horses are taking a well earned summer break. Sarah in her other role as the official number one Nicholls groupie was delighted to be involved. “We are so grateful to Citroen and Warners for the donation and what a great opportunity to meet Paul again. Racing Welfare is the only charity that helps all staff in racing and my colleague Rowan and I cover a huge geographical area in our work, so we need every penny we can raise to help stud and stable staff in times of need throughout the West Country. In these “Credit Crunch” times its good to know that both Citroen and Warners are still prepared to spend some money on helping racing’s unsung heroes.”
