Wetherby – November 2008

Henry currently works for the BHA as a racecourse stable guard however he started his racing career with Cliff Boothman at South Milford near Leeds where he stayed until 1974. He then moved on to work for Mel Brittain until 1985 when he was offered the job of travelling head lad for Richard Whittaker with who he stayed till 1994 before starting off with the Jockey Club security department and then onto its current guise the BHA.

His favourite horse is Grannerton bay who won a big Epsom handicap with Willie Carson up. The horse’s owners Mr & Mrs Whittaker knowing Henry’s love for the horse asked him to represent them in receiving the race trophy, an opportunity that this cheerful Yorkshireman grabbed with both hands!
